Partnerships
SLI seeks to form partnerships with like-minded organizations and individuals who bring complementary knowledge, skills, and other assets. At present, we have established one formal partnership, which is described below. We encourage others who may wish to collaborate with us to contact us at their convenience using the contact form provided elsewhere on this web site.
GoingGreenToday.com
SLI has formed a unique partnership with GoingGreenToday.com (GGT) to address one of the major obstacles on the path to a more sustainable American society: the slow adoption of sustainability as a guiding principle in the lives of most of our citizens, and the ongoing resistance to making changes in the many small decisions and actions taken by individuals in their daily lives.
To address this endemic problem, the Going Green Today Program triggers widespread greenhouse gas (GHG) and other pollutant emissions reduction in the communities where it is deployed. Use of the platform has been proven to produce behavioral transformation that, at scale, can shift market demand towards more sustainable consumer products, while yielding personal and municipal cost savings and environmental and human health improvement, as well as personal empowerment. This platform is currently being deployed in the District of Columbia, in the branded Do It For DC! Challenge (DIFDC) in partnership with SLI and the District government. SLI has contributed the time and expertise of its senior staff to assist GGT in deploying DIFDC, further defining and quantifying the personal and social benefits of the program, and identifying and securing sources of funding to support full program implementation.
The objectives of this program are to engage 11 percent of the population of DC in the program, and teach each participant how to save an average of $2,000 off their cost of living while cutting their carbon footprint by one-third. This is accomplished through a personalized, 90-day, online coaching experience. The expected results of the program after one year include the return of $136 million to the DC economy and a reduction in greenhouse gas emission in the District of 614 million pounds. In only a few months, the program has enrolled more than 2,700 DC residents who we estimate have collectively saved $50,200 and have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 434,131 pounds. The program has a proven track record, is monitored in real time, and is easily replicable in any municipality.
Although there are other systems across the country similar to ours, the Going Green Today program is the only one that is customizable for municipalities, with adjustable goals and a sophisticated, agile model that customizes goals based on that municipality’s population, household numbers, driving trends, and electricity costs, among other factors. It is also the only program that builds community-wide coalitions with government agencies, nonprofits, private businesses, and community- and faith-based organizations. We are currently the only program that actively supports the green economy while addressing behavioral change.
